Allerthorpe School Achieves Woodland Trust Green Tree School Bronze Award

Allerthorpe School is delighted to announce that it has been awarded the Woodland Trust’s Green Tree School Bronze Award, recognising the school’s commitment to outdoor learning, environmental education and inspiring learners to connect with the natural world.

The Green Tree Schools Award is a nationally recognised programme that encourages schools to engage learners in environmental projects, outdoor activities and sustainability initiatives. Achieving Bronze status reflects the enthusiasm and dedication shown by learners and staff in promoting environmental awareness and developing a greater understanding of the importance of protecting nature.

Throughout the award journey, learners have participated in a range of outdoor learning experiences designed to foster curiosity, resilience and respect for the environment. Activities have encouraged learners to explore local wildlife, learn about trees and habitats, and develop a deeper appreciation for the role nature plays in supporting wellbeing and biodiversity.

Outdoor learning forms an important part of life at Allerthorpe School, providing meaningful opportunities for learners to build confidence, develop practical skills and engage with the world around them in a hands-on and accessible way.

School Principal Sarah Grove said:

“We are incredibly proud to have achieved the Woodland Trust Green Tree School Bronze Award. This recognition reflects the hard work and enthusiasm of Tim and our learners, who have embraced opportunities to learn about and care for the natural environment. Outdoor learning plays a vital role in supporting our learners’ personal development, wellbeing and understanding of sustainability, and we look forward to continuing our environmental journey as we work towards future Green Tree School Awards.”

The achievement marks an important milestone in Allerthorpe School’s ongoing commitment to environmental education and reinforces the school’s dedication to creating engaging learning experiences that help learners develop a lifelong appreciation for nature and the outdoors.
